Timeline for Success

As we have worked with faculty across IUPUI, we have developed recommended strategies for disseminating scholarship, expanding your audience, and building your reputation. You can contact the metrics team or your liaison librarian for support.

Complete the Research Impact Challenge for New Faculty, which includes these tasks:
- Create a Google Scholar profile page (make it public)
- Create an ORCID (make it public)
- Create an account to upload your work to IUPUI ScholarWorks
- Contact your liaison librarian
Read your departmental and school guidelines for P&T.
Talk to your department chair and members of your school and departmental P&T committees about expectations for scholarship and evidence of excellence. Sample questions to ask.
Attend a new faculty “plan for success” workshop hosted by Academic Affairs.

Work with your liaison librarian to upload the previous year’s works to IUPUI ScholarWorks:
- Journal articles (fall under the IUPUI Open Access Policy)
- Conference presentations and posters
- Other research outputs
Develop a process for collecting evidence for your dossier. In particular, consider ways to gather and track qualitative evidence (i.e., letters, reviews, comments, policy mentions, and anecdotes that discuss the quality or impact of your work).
Develop a strategy to get your work to readers, whether they are students, trainees, professionals, the community, or the public. Connect everything back to your online scholarly presence.
Read the IUPUI campus level guidelines for P&T.
Read sample dossiers on the Academic Affairs website or ask your colleagues for strong recent examples.
Check on your Google Scholar and ORCID profiles to make sure they are reasonably current and accurate.
Begin to think about the story you want to tell in your Three-Year Review.

Work with your liaison librarian to upload the previous year’s works to IUPUI ScholarWorks:
- Journal articles (fall under the IUPUI Open Access Policy)
- Conference presentations and posters
- Other research outputs
Check on your Google Scholar and ORCID profiles to make sure they are reasonably current and accurate.
Attend a workshop based on your academic area of excellence hosted by Academic Affairs.
Ask peers in your department or school to read your draft three-year review statement.
Schedule a research impact & metrics consultation with your liaison librarian in support of your third-year review (preferably more than 2 weeks prior to the deadline).

Work with your liaison librarian to upload the previous year’s works to IUPUI ScholarWorks:
- Journal articles (fall under the IUPUI Open Access Policy)
- Conference presentations and posters
- Other research outputs
Check on your Google Scholar and ORCID profiles to make sure they are reasonably current and accurate
Reflect on the feedback received on your Three-Year Review statement and think about how to address any gaps. Do you need to rethink your strategy for reaching your intended audience or how you are collecting evidence?
Talk to your department chair and members of your school and departmental P&T committees about expectations for scholarship and evidence of excellence.
Attend a dossier preparation workshop hosted by Academic Affairs and/or your school, if applicable.

Work with your liaison librarian to upload the previous year’s works to IUPUI ScholarWorks:
- Journal articles (fall under the IUPUI Open Access Policy)
- Conference presentations and posters
- Other research outputs
Schedule a research impact & metrics consultation with your liaison librarian in support of your dossier (3-6 months prior to submitting your materials for external review for best results).
- Share a current version of your CV and your draft statement
- See examples of evidence used in P&T dossiers
